To keep your teeth healthy, you have to keep your gums healthy! Our gums support our teeth and protect the roots from being exposed to plaque and decay. Our staff at Infinity Dental dedicates time to explain and teach our patients of Murray, Utah about excellent tooth and gum health care.
As a result of poor oral health care, plaque, and tartar can start to build upon the teeth and on the gum line. If left un-cleaned or untreated this build-up can result in experiencing periodontal disease.
Periodontal disease or also known as gingivitis can cause your gums to swell, bleed, and even start receding. Other health issues can come from this periodontal disease such as bone or tooth loss, high blood pressure, or even a stroke. In our office, we take gum disease very seriously due to its severe risks.
Once you have been diagnosed with gingivitis, the dentist will assign a treatment plan to remove the built-up tartar and plaque. If gums have started receding, treatment plans will involve gum grafting to repair what is damaged.
Scaling & Root Planing: Scaling involves using specific instruments, to remove the plaque and tartar build-up around the gum line, for the gums to heal. Hard build-up can be difficult to remove, so it takes force and an Ultrasonic scaler to break it down.
If the gums have started to recede, the roots of your teeth will be exposed and will be at high-risk for cavities and you will need root planing. Root planing is where the root is deeply cleaned of debris to promote healing.
Gum Grafting: If left untreated, gums around the teeth will start receding and the risk of losing a tooth raises. Once the exposed parts of the tooth are cleaned of debris, the gum tissue is removed from a healthy section and placed onto the parts with little to no tissue.
Having gum disease is nothing to take lightly, coming into your bi-yearly appointments can help our staff detect it early. If your gums have been swollen, bleeding, or receding please contact Infinity Dental in Murray, Utah.
